Opposition and Popularity
Jesus intentionally raises the stakes, demonstrating His authority, by healing publicly on the Sabbath.

1. Why was Jesus being so public and intentional about this healing?
“He looked at them in anger, grieved by the hardness of their hearts…” (3:5)
2. What do you think is going on in the mind and heart of Jesus? Do we ever provoke this from Him?
“He appointed 12 so that they would “be with” him…” (3:14)
3. What does this look like in your life? What could this look like in your life?
4. Growing out of “being with” Jesus, He “sent them out to preach.” We say “being precedes doing.” Do you need to focus on more “being” or more “doing”?

UPG FOCUS: The Ahmadi in India
The Ahmadi people of India—a Muslim sect with no known evangelical believers number around 78,000. Established in the late 1800s, the Ahmadiyya movement follows the teachings of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, whom they believe to be the promised Messiah. While they are active in religious outreach, they face rejection and persecution from other Muslim communities. Pray that they would encounter the true hope found in Jesus Christ, seek truth through Scripture, and that God would raise up Ahmadi followers of Christ who boldly share the gospel and lead others into faith.
