“What’s really cool is that even though Brad and I have fantastic biological families, Home Church for us is an extension of our own family.”
-Jennifer Rusher
Brad and Jennifer Rusher joined us to share about the deep relationships they have experienced with their Home Group. When they joined this group, they had no idea how much they would come to rely on their community. It all started when Brad got really sick, and he was hospitalized for weeks.
“When it happened, our home church just immediately stepped in without even thinking, watched our kids, took them to their house and fed them. At the time, we were selling our house and moving. They came together and moved our house in a day,” Brad recalled. “We were just totally blessed. I didn’t even realize it at the time because I was out for a while. I woke up and realized that they had done all of this, and I was humbled by the way they had served us.”
Jennifer added, “Whether it’s an ER visit, an extended hospital stay, whether it’s encouragement in parenting or accountability in marriage - Life is messy. My best advice would be get in the mess with your home church. Be vulnerable and allow them to love you where you’re at.”
As they finished sharing about their experience, Brad added another bit of advice, “We have been coming to Fellowship for probably 20 years, and we waited about 10 years before we really got involved in home church. I regret that. Don’t wait 10 years.”
“Everybody’s going through stuff. Find a community, get connected to a Home Church. Share life with each other because life is hard. So do it together.” - Brad Rusher
