1. What is an example of a fun secret you have had to keep? Or give an example of a secret someone has kept from you?
2. One reason Jesus doesn’t permit the demons to speak (v.34) is because He wants accurate representation. What are some examples of false representations of Jesus that we experience today? How would you respond to someone who blames Jesus for what some of His “followers” might do?
3. In vv.35-39, we learn Jesus has different priorities than His disciples. They seem to be excited about the crowds and the spectacle, while Jesus has a more humble agenda. Why do you think the disciples would be excited about the crowds? What are some ways we can have this same mentality as the disciples? What are some examples of ways we can embrace the humble priorities of Jesus?
4. Another reason for the messianic secret is Jesus has a greater purpose. He knows He can’t be fully understood apart from the cross. Why do we often want the healing and glory without the cross? What are some specific ways God might be calling you to experience humility and the cross in your life?
5. Jesus’ victory over death means He will return and fully restore all things, and there will be full healing. What do you look most forward to about the day of His return?
6. What truth did you learn about God in this week’s message?
7. How are you encouraged or challenged by this passage?

UPG FOCUS: The Tubu, Teda in Nigeria
The Tubu, Teda of Nigeria are an unreached Muslim people group of 4,800 people (165,700 worldwide), with 0% Christian and 0% evangelical. Living as nomadic herders in the Sahara Desert, they have a strong tradition of tribal honor, resilience, and survival. With no Bible translation in their heart language, they have little access to God's Word. Pray that the Lord would raise up laborers to reach the Tubu, open hearts to the gospel, provide Scripture in Tedaga, and establish a thriving disciple-making movement among them.
