Jesus Christ is God’s Son (vv.10-11)

Who Comes to Us in Humility (v.9)

To Win the Cosmic Battle (vv.12-13)

Victory in the Battle

-Recognize the Battle
-Right View of Jesus
-Role of Humility
-Remember the End

Read Mark 1:9-13

1. We should consider Who Jesus is as God’s Son (v.11) before we consider what it looks like to follow Him. Why is it important we start here? What are some consequences if we don’t first consider Who Jesus is?

2. What are some truths we learn about God from vv.10-11?

3. What are some examples of how the story of Jesus is the opposite of what we might expect? What are some examples of following Him faithfully that might be the opposite of how we would naturally live?

4. How does this call to follow Jesus- even when it is the opposite of our natural instinct- encourage or challenge you personally?

5. Discuss the four principles for “Victory in the Battle” at the bottom of the sermon outline. Which of these four stands out most to you? What would it look like for you to apply this in your life?

6. What is one specific step of obedience you can take this week in response to Mark 1:9-13?

UPG FOCUS: The Abaza in Russia
The Abaza are a small people group in Russia's Caucasus region with a long history and a unique language. Most follow Sunni Islam, while many also rely on traditional spiritual practices such as charms and amulets for daily protection. There are only a few known followers of Christ, and Scripture translation into their heart language is still in progress. Pray for the gospel to take root among the Abaza, for believers to faithfully reflect the grace of Jesus, and for God's Word to transform lives through translation and discipleship.
