Update 5/2/14, 8:00am
I know that as we see the devastation around us and hear the stories of those affected by the storms our hearts are broken. Many of you have a desire to do something to help. Please continue to pray for those affected and the people serving them. As I have been out at the sites around Vilonia and Mayflower the past 2 days I wanted to pass on the best avenues we have seen for you to serve.
The best way to serve in the physical storm relief effort is to go through Samaritan’s Purse. Go to First Baptist Church in Mayflower or First Baptist Church in Vilonia. You can show up at Samaratin’s Purse at either of the First Baptist Churches and they have work orders to send teams and individuals out to serve. Bring your Driver’s License with you. In Mayflower you will have to then go to city hall and get credentials for the specific area that you are working in. First Baptist in Vilonia is on the East side of the town off of 64. http://spvolunteernetwork.samaritanspurse.org/spring-2014-tornado-response/
In the aftermath of last night’s tragedy, many of you have been asking how you can serve in helping those families suffering from the heartbreak of losing their property and even loved ones. We pray that everyone in the Fellowship Conway body is safe and sound.
We want to be very careful not to interfere with the authorities and relief crews who are working hard to assist people and clear cities. As we work to get in touch with our contacts around the state, we will be keep this page updated where you can find the most recent opportunities to serve. Be sure to check back here at www.fellowshipconway.org/tornado-relief/ throughout the week for updates. Until then here are some ways you can help:
- Pray – This is absolutely the biggest and best way to help. Pray for the families who were affected by the storms; pray as many of them are relocated away from their homes and their possessions. Pray for responders and authorities as they sift through the debris, and have to make decisions that will impact the towns. Pray for the ones who have lost their fathers, mothers, siblings and children; pray that the peace of God will touch them and that they will feel His love, grace, and provision.
- Donate – The Ministry Center officially opens it’s doors in downtown Conway at the old 2BC campus (701 Polk Street, Conway) this week. The Ministry Center is a centralized drop off point for Conway churches to bring supplies, then the MC will get them to the areas of most need. The MC will be accepting donations from 4-7pm Today and 9-3 Tuesday- Thursday. (Those days and hours may expand, but that is the start.) Below is a list of needed items.
- Serve – We are working to find more information from response crews on how we can serve. We know you want to help with boots on the ground, but we also want to cooperate with the authorities and relief crews already at work. To volunteer in Vilonia, volunteers should check in at Beryl Baptist Church (873 U.S. 64 Business, Vilonia, AR 72173). We are being told that the authorities in Vilonia are not sending many volunteer crews out as of this minute while they still work to assess the situation and let the pros work. You can also serve at the Ministry Center helping to process donations.
- Needs – If you or someone you know was affected by the tragedy last night please let us know how we can help you. Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will contact you.
Again, thank you for your desire to help our neighbors who experienced this tragedy.
