Last week I began addressing a way forward for all the leaders within Home Church to further the mission of Fellowship (and reduce your workload!) by empowering others within your group. The three areas of focus are missionary care, prayer, and service projects.
A few years ago we had a Fellowship missionary family experience the loss of their unborn baby. During this incredibly difficult time, a Home Church decided they needed to walk alongside this couple – loving them, supporting them emotionally, and having some ladies within the group keep in contact with the mom. From this tragedy arose something amazing. Whenever this couple came home from India, they were greeted by their Fellowship family. No longer did Fellowship seem like a place full of strangers that didn’t know or care about how they were serving the Lord and sharing Christ in an incredibly difficult part of the world. They felt like they were coming home to a church family that they were partnering with and being cared for that were fully invested in partnering to see the world know the Gift of Christ.
We want to see that done with all of our Fellowship ministries, and we need more HC’s that are willing to do this. However, I do not want you to be the point person (unless you desire and have the bandwidth to do it). I do want you to personally ask someone (not a general, “does anyone want to do this?”) to communicate with a missionary ongoing. The Missionary Care Team is working to reduce and specify a process that is obtainable and significant for both the HC and the missionary. They will walk alongside your point person to ensure they are supported and successful in this venture.
I just need from you the name of the point person (if you did not share that with me last week) or that you are open to selecting a missionary to care for. We can take it from there! Let me know, this is an opportunity that can have a great impact on your HC and the missionary and through this partnership enhance the ministry they do.
