Doing Delivers and Demonstrates Faith James 2:14-26 (Part #2)
In the midst of a trial, faith without works cannot save you from the trial (2:14).
When faced with a needy person making a request, empty promises with no action are not helpful (2:14-16).
In the midst of a trial, faith without works is dead: lifeless and unproductive (2:17).
Faith and deeds are not related.
Demons are a perfect example (2:18-19).
The Response with Examples:
The evidence of two Old Testament examples demonstrates that faith and works are related (2:20-25).
• Abraham was tested and obeyed and was called the friend of God (Genesis 22).
• Rahab was tested and proved that her faith was real (Joshua 2).
In the midst of a trial, faith without works is like a body with out a spirit: dead (2:14).
In the midst of trials faith alone will not save you.
You must obey God to be delivered,
resulting in your justification before men.
- Monday: Genesis 22:1-14
- Tuesday: Genesis 22:15-24
- Wednesday: Joshua 2:1-14
- Thursday: Joshua 2:15-24
- Friday: James 3:1-11
Next Steps from Today’s Message
- I will actively engage with trials, tests, and temptation with a determination to obey God.
- I will stop being passive in my spiritual growth and get active in obedience and service.
- I will honestly ask myself how many people would call me a “friend of God” based on my obedience in testing.
