Last night in training we had a really worshipful time as our team shared communion. It was a great climax to our team building as we all experienced the common bond of being united because of Christ’s death for us that allows us to have a relationship with him. It was also a good reminder that our purpose in being here is to introduce people to that relationship made possible for us and them through Christ.
This morning our time was again very important as we focused on the essential elements of the gospel. Jack Evans, Zach Benton, Laura Klanda and Corrine Hinton made our team shine as they each presented the gospel with crystal clarity and passion. Shane and I are so proud to be leading the “Arkansas Team” which has a reputation for being large, loud and well prepared. All of our veterans have been excited to get back and see friends. And I have already heard the Czech’s saying that a lot of the students have been asking about Melodie Swartzwelder, who is our one returning college girl.
It is so fun to see Sam Roberts and Ty Mapel (with fresh Mohawks for camp) preparing to see their friends from last year. Ben Hughey and Bear Klenda have been relentless making plans for the “Airsoft Class” they are planning with Medved, Bobr and Martin. Bob Gerdes, Nick Connerly and Jordan Logan (Fro) are so much more relaxed and at ease as we anticipate the beginning of the week. Lizzy Adams and Kari Wernecke seem like they have been on the trip multiple times before and I keep forgetting this is their first time. Lizzy will be leading our camp dance with Lorrie Flemming.
Interestingly, we recently found out that we are going to have to change one the of the motions for the camp dance because they are too similar to the cheers from an Neo-Nazi group in the Czech Republic (that would be a huge mistake0. Laura Klenda (Bear’s wife and slowing but reluctantly becoming Mrs. Bear) has added an element of calm to the trip as she quietly watches as chaos erupts all around her. Personally, I am wondering how long she can hold out. Perhaps Bryce Woods has the most difficult job of all. He is the one new high School guy among others who have all been before. But, if you know Bryce this is no surprise, he is keeping us all laughing.
Around noon we began our journey from Hotel Brylov south of Prague to our camp location of Chata Zvonice (link below) which is north east of Prague just one kilometer (less than mile) from the Polish Border. As soon as we arrived in Pardubice to pick up a few more members of the Arka Church Team Alyssa Strickland immediately took up where she left off with old relationships on the bus. Our travels took us on trains and busses and through cities and woods. Three times we made wrong turns until Anderson Wilkins fired up his iPad and took over the navigation. After Anderson took over we quickly arrived safely at our destination.
We are deep in the woods at about 2500 feet and the temperatures are forcasted to be in the mid to low 70’s all week (check for weather at Nycovy Domky which is what my iPhone is telling me is the local weather). The students will arrive tomorrow at around 4:30 p.m. and we have a lot of work to get done before they arrive. Pray that our time is used well and we get a little rest before the long days of camp are upon us.
