Well, we have safely arrived in the Czech Republic and are all…well, excited and bleary eyed. Our trip was easy with one exception. We sat on the plane in Chicago for over an hour and a half which was really no problem except for the fact that it cut our layover in London from four hours to three hours making a quick dash into the city to see Big Ben and Westminster Abby Impossible.
We arrived in Prague with all of our luggage to be greeted by Martina who quickly got us on a bus headed to Brelov Mlyn near the town of Tynec nad Sazavou just about an hour south of Prague. Tomas Polivka met us at the airport as well and we saw Annetka from the Vinohrady Church at the airport where she works arranging transportation and tours for Americans (because she can speak english as a result of english camp).
We have settled in and thankfully did not have any training after we arrived here at 5:00 p.m. We had a fantastic hot meal and played games until 9:30 so that everyone would stay awake and go to bed on “Czech Time.” The plan seems to have worked and we are all doing great today. Training so far has included Czech History (*40 years of freedom from 1620-2013), Czech Culture (the rule of threes) and Teaching English Training (Four Things to Avoid: Distraction, Dominators, Disinterest, Christians – really, ask us later).
Petrunda, Ancha and Vojta (two girls and a boy) just arrived from the Pardubice Church and we were so excited to see them. These three are young leaders in the church and we are anxious to see the new younger leaders taking control of Camp. It is so fun to watch the new leaders emerge and assume leadership roles and watch the mature leaders who have been around for a long time pass the baton.
Pray that we will get some rest and overcome any lingering jet lag while we are here at training. We have two full days and then off to camp on Friday. Pray that the great since of unity on the team is maintained and that our first-timers will fit in well and get the hang of things quickly.
I will keep you posted and you can follow us on twitter @shwanamaker.
